Around The Water Cooler

Some time ago I tossed out a handful of cracked corn to a chicken standing at the feed room door. Once was all it took.  Now I have to "pay up" every morning.  And not only the chickens come running, but half the birds in the neighborhood as well.  They tootle around cleaning it up and then go get a big drink from the cat and dog water bucket.  I like when everyone gets along and shares. Maybe we could learn something from these "dumb" animals.

Oh I only WISH we would learn more from the other creatures we share this world with...

I love those barn doors.

I looked out this morning to see two grey squirrels, two chipmunks, six crows, a handful of sparrows and my chickens, all enjoying the scratch. A harmonious and diverse group, if I ever saw one.

Sadly, our wildlife situation is not so harmonious. It's more like the Middle East, with bunnies on one side and coyotes on the other.

Actually, we could learn a lot. I love your pictures and the stories that accompany them.:-)

They aren't dumb. They know that the only way to survive is to "give peace (or (corn) piece) a chance".

They learn fast. Best thing I ever learned was that you can get an animal to do almost anything you want with treats. It makes farm life SO much more peaceful.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could all play so nice?!

It reminds me of when my grandkids were babies. As soon as my dog saw the kids coming he's hang out close to the highchair in hopes of Cheerios fallout.
