Fall Flowers

I mostly took a bunch of fairly uninspiring pictures of the very inspiring flowers around the Wool House yesterday.  I've had an outstanding flower year and feel like it's rapidly coming to a close. Love the flowers, but love the cool to cold weather as well.  It's a complicated relationship ;-).

We are getting a bunch of rain and storms today, so I wanted some pictures just in case all my blooms hit the ground.  Hopefully they won't and I'll get a chance for a do-over.

Weaslie's my little shadow now.  She used to follow Iris and still looks for her every time we head for the barn.  I'm probably a poor substitute since I can't run as fast as Iris did.  That was the big game.

This variety of lavender is called Jean Davis.  It blooms a very pale pink that look more like white to me.  Note to future self, plant more flowers down the back fence of the lavender garden.  And a second planting too!

I need to get started preparing my lavender for winter.  I'm afraid we're going to have another tough one and I sure don't want a repeat of the losses from last year.  Aside from the sheep barn, this is my favorite place on the farm.

As I was picking out pictures this morning I kept smelling lavender.  Talk about a picture painting a thousand words!  And then I remembered I had a bag of lavender soap from my favorite soap maker sitting next to my desk ;-).

Note to future self (as in next spring and early summer!), plant even more marigolds and put them all over the yard.  These hard working flowers, along with my zinnias, have really made my summer!

Are there any other flowers like these that I should know about and plan for next year?

Oh, how I love spending time in your corner of the world! Flowers! Ours have faded and are getting ready for a long winter's nap. Please give Baaxter a hug for me. :)

you have such a beautiful garden and I loved the flowers and the walk about. I love this time of year as the growing slows down gently.

Love the Petunias in the sheep planter.

Your yard is so beautiful. I missed my lavender - so grow more! Then I have what they call Hyssop. Tolerates the dryness here and blooms all summer and best of all, the hummingbirds love it. Might give it a try.

I love seeing pictures of Tillie, she's just such a doll. And the flowers are awesome, too.

You might like some short Dahlias...Dahlia 'Figaro' is a Dahlia from seed that blooms it's heart out. I used to dig the best colors (red of course) and replant them the next year. Yes even from seed Dahlias form a tuber. Your gardens are lovely:)

And of course the marigolds make a great natural dye, so that's double duty. I especially like the greens/teals that come out when overdyed with indigo ...
For some reason my marigolds stalled out this year, but are at their peak now!

That is one pretty dog:-)! Marigolds are very thankful flowers. I let mine self-seed.What is the pale pink flower behind the marigolds? Beautiful!

Your flowers are still really strong! Love the sheep planter on the wool house porch! Let's see.... portulaca is bright, hardy, low growing and does well in heat (excellent in containers), cleome is tall and airy and also tolerates heat and drought and blooms till it croaks. Flowering tobacco is awesome! Jasmine scent at night is very strong, white blooms look almost tropical. Love that!

Oh, I'm just getting all caught up with you and yours. What a lot you always have on your plate. As always, gorgeous photos! I wish I could visit in person some time. And see all the kids! Doodle and Co send all their best BAAA'S to your babies. Please let me know how I can get a Lamb Camp calendar. I'll get in touch, too. :-)

Love your flowers. Great pics -- I like your use of depth of field here, as with the sheepses. I love Weaslie, too.

I think my fave is the one with the bumble purposefully headed for the lavender. :-)

Daylilies and hostas are amongst my faves -- stalwart and reliable without fuss. And sweet alyssum is one of my favorite annuals. Love the honey scent. And goldenrod....

The goldenrod has been gorgeous this year!

Oranges and reds and yellows.......in whatever flower they come in! re Weaslie, since Lile died, my Zetta has become 'my' dog now instead of the step-sister. Interesting how they change.

Love the flowers even if it is the end of season- one flower I have that is still going strong is snapdragons. I especially love them because they reseed themselves. I had lovely orange ones this year.
